Play.com blue ray

My girlfriend bought me a Samsung blue ray player from Play.com last christmas. Within a week it had more or less packed up and stopped playing. My girlfriend informed Play (after a great deal of difficulty) of the problem and they more or less insisted that it was the manafacturers responsibility to rectify the problem. My girlfriend is quite knowledgable about consumer issues and told play that it was their responsibility to exchange the goods, which did eventually happen.
The replacement model worked fine for a few months but has recently become very erratic only playing certain blue rays, so the decision was made to send it back to Play. To clarify things the new model was replaced at the end of January this year.
My girlfriend said that it will still be within warranty as it was still less than 12 months old. Like many people who have contacted Plays customer services she had great difficulty in understanding the person on the other end of the phone, and eventually gave up trying to explain her complaint.
However, she rang me this morning and told me that after some research she had discovered that Play are registerd in the Channel Islands, and as such are exempt from some of the UK's trading laws.
So please be warned that Play.coms position on the return of goods is not the same as the rest of the UK's.
Anyone had any similar experiences?

look on every packet from them and you can see it comes from Jersey0 -
I've always thought regardless of where they are, if they are trading in the United Kingdom, they have to follow the laws set out here0

sending to the UK isnt trading in the UK0
