Gas fire repair worth pusuing?

I have a Dimplex sturminster inset gas fire where the slider control ignition won't work. So far, two gas repairers have failed to follow up my requests for repair and the firm who installed it said on the phone I'm best to cut my losses and have a new fire as Dimplex don't do gas fires any more and parts are not available. I guess it's not moneysaving to pay for call-outs if it can't be fixed but I'm wondering if the guy who suggested getting a new one was just after a sale.
The gas is coming through, but the ignition doesn't click (battery renewed twice) and the striker thing is free. Any advice please ?
