New 'better' sale begins immediately after old sale

Options
Morning all,

I recently bought a TV in Currys.co.uk at a sale price. The sale ended last Wednesday. The same TV is now on offer for less than I originally paid.

Does anyone know if there any recourse on this (the TV has to be on sale at the higher price for a period of time before it can be reduced)? Tried the consumerdirect website, but info on fair trading difficult to find.

The hassle of returning the TV and reordering it doens't appeal.

Cheers
Alex

The TV only has to be at a higher price for a certain length of time (4 weeks, I think), if they want to reduce it and claim a saving (e.g. "Half Price", "Save £80").

As you've bought the TV at the price paid and agreed to buy it at that price, you have no legal recourse. If it was in the last 7 days, you could return and reorder - an easier way is to try your local store (assuming it's not a web exclusive) and the Price Promise, which counts up to 7 days after purchase. Technically, the Price Promise is worded so that we don't have to match our own prices, but only the hardest of b***ards would stick to that.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

  • I knew my chances would be slim at best... (and hassle not worth the difference in price). My OP was probably just a rant at these so called sales. I once saw a sale board below an item at a high street shop (can't remember which shop). It stated that the item had been at the original price for 3 days last March in the Harrowgate store. ha.

Although its extremely frustrating, I think its just a fact of life.

I bought a 32" LCD TV from John Lewis for £349, then a month later they dropped the price to £319.

I bought an LCD TV from Tesco for £185, 2 weeks later they dropped it to £165.

Annoying as hell, but I'm happy with the items so just deal with it now.
