Probloms opening OpenOffice docs after installing Office 2003

I just installed the complete version of Office 2003 Pro onto my laptop. I had previously been running OpenOffice. This was loaded from disk and entering the product key i.e. not a pirated copy.

I'm getting the following error message when I try to open either OpenOffice documents or any of the OpenOffice programs -

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application.

If you know how to fix this, or any ideas as to what might be wrong, I would be most grateful.

Thanks.

    Thanks for your suggestion.

I just uninstalled OpenOffice 3.0 and the error stopped, but I can't open any of the OpenOffice (odt docs) in Word or any other program, it just produces gobbeldegook. I tried to reinstall OpenOffice from their website and now I'm getting a new error message

"Installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installer's author to obtain a new copy.

    More information at: http://nsis.sf.net/NCIS_error"

I've cleared my cache and switched off my anti-virus software and tried it again but no joy. I recently installed Norton 2.0 after using Avast, although I don't think that is anything to do with the issue.

I need to get access to these documents today. Any suggestions of computer support people I could call who could fix this?

    Thanks.

Sorry I'm not that up on my computers. Can I download this from the internet or do I have to buy a disk?

My laptop died after being infected by a virus and I don't have the copy of Windows anymore.

    Thanks
  • You need to install the ODF Plugin from Sun to be able to open the odt documents in Office.

Download openoffice portable and open the file within that, you dont need to install the portable version so there will be no problems: http://portableapps.com/apps/office/openoffice_portable
  • Thanks guys. The plug in was the silver bullet I was looking for. have downloaded it and it's now working.

Does anyone know how I can convert .odt i.e. open office documents on mass to .doc or do I have to do it individually by saving as a different file?

Also all of my .doc documents are defaulted to open with WordPad. Any way that I can change this to word?

Thanks for your help. You guys are so much better than the other forums.
