Advise on claiming back bank charges?

Hi guys, I posted a thread last night. Thanks for everyones replies and support. Was considering declering bankruptcy, but going to stick with the DPM with CCCS for now. Hopefully will have another job by the end of the year which I'am working towards at the moment, so If successful, I will be earning a lot more money!

Anyway, my next question (sorry guys!). Reclaiming bank charges... does it really work? My lloyds current account which my wages DONT go into anymore had charged me so many times I have lost count. Sometimes I was paying around £100 each month in bank charges £30 a time. Could I get this back?

Thankyou! xxx

Leanne, yes it does work. :j

Quite a few people on here have already got their charges back and many more (including me) are in the process of doing so. Not sure of the 'terminology' but I'm basically at the stage of letting them know I'm taking them to court to get my money back! :D

I have a couple of accounts that have charged me. Plus a few credit cards companies to. Should I do them all? I was just going to do my Lloyds Current account as they have charged me the most I think. I have got my first letter printed up ready to send them!

How long on average, would you say it takes between sending out your first letter and getting your money back? Just wondered if anyone could tell me!

Well I sent my initial DPA letter on April 5th. I didn't send the next letter asking for it all back until May 24th coz they took ages to send all my statements to me. After that they were very swift in their replies telling me to bu**er off. :rotfl:

I only issued my claim through the courts on Friday so Natwest should receive it in the next couple of days and they then have 14 days to respond! Not long now hopefully! :j

Well good luck with it! I can't wait to post mine off tommorrow! Do I send the letter to my local branch, my main branch where I opened the account or Lloyds Head Office?!

I received a cheque from natwest for £2250 last weekend .....they conveniently forgot about the interest and extra court costs, so I phoned them up to remind them today, lol!

Not bad considering they offered £1200 a few weeks ago.

However, as I was saying to someone in work today, it is a game of poker.....they will try and frighten you with all the legal wording etc and you have to remember that potentially your case could up in court. However, having said that I haven't heard of a case going to court.

Best to have a look at https://www.consumeractiongroup.com as this site is dedicated to helping people reclaim their bank charges.

I don't mean to put you off or frighten you not into not reclaiming ....I think its always better to be aware of the whole situation rather than take a blinkered view of things.
