I downloaded an update called Windows Vista Service Pack 2, and now I have no sound at all on my laptop. If I put the mouse over the sound icon it says, 'No audio output device is installed.'
What do I have to do to get the audio output back? Thanks for any advice.

EDIT: another simple check > look under control panel > sound and audio devices under the "audio" tab, do you have a default device listed for sound playback? if not is there one in the drop down box you can select?
check under control panel > device manager and see if you have any errors under sound devices.
you could try running windows update and checking the optional updates for anything sound related (eg from one of the main sound h/w companies, realtek, creative etc)
you could also try uninstalling/reinstalling your sound driver, without knowing what sound hardware you're supposed to have difficult to be more specific0 -
Thanks for replying. I'll try your suggestions.0
