Of course; I wasn't advocating that everyone rushes out and buys Norton Anti-virus. Some seem to think it's an absolutely terrible product though, and that might not be entirely justified (it has certainly improved over the years).

You might want to give Malwarebytes a try. It comes very highly recommended by many 'round these parts. SpyBot and Ad-aware were certainly the programs of choice a few years ago, but my impression is that times have moved on (though, SpyBot's immunise feature is certainly useful).

You seem pretty clued up anyway, and a user who knows what they are doing is going to have less trouble no matter what anti-malware product they're using.

    Still, whatever works, works.
  • Update :- The Advert pop up on my computer was :-
Win32/Adware Error Repair application also on the computer
was :- Win32 / Skintrim.CZtrojan . Rapport, Norton Internet Security, Spybot, AVG 9 all these did not sought these two problems out but I downloaded Eset’s NOD32 from the techie board sticky (and its free) which found the above and destroyed them, my computer is working much faster again now and no adverts popping up. Thought I would post this in case others are having the same kind of problem.:rotfl:

I don't know why people keep insisting on using Norton...

I would personally remove it and get a triumvirate of AVG, Spybot and Adaware, with a firewall such as panda or avast.

Norton sucks but then again, AVG isn't exactly a shining example either.

    Do the following:
Go to www.malwarebytes.org and download the free antimalware tool. Install it and update it then run it. It'll get rid of everything. If it doesn't, go over to here http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/ , install it, run it and post the results.

Next stop is over to www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ and install that.
Job is now done as they say.

NOD32 is not free but both NOD32 and Kaspersky are the best of the paid fors.
