prescription specs

Options
Just got two pairs of prescription specs from Tesco.
I got varifocals they're only for close work and reading but thats what the optician suggested.
I've tried to use them but they are terrible, everything is blurred or on a slant and I can't even see the computer screen unless it's out of arms length.
I mentioned that they seemed distorted when picking them up but they said just wear them for a while and you'll adjust.
They give me a terrible headache.
I'm back to using my cheap off the shelf ones and feel like I've just thrown away £300.
Have I any rights to take these back and ask for a refund.
Just had them a week but I have tried and they just don't seem right.
Any advice would be appreciated,thanks.

    Have you had varifocals before?
  • Not been back yet, going today and no I have'nt had varifocals before.
I realise they take time to get used too but I can not see clearly at all out of the bottom half of them no matter which way I try.
I did mention that when picking them up.
I just wondered if anyone else had had to go back and wanted to be prepared as to what to expect and what I should be asking for.
    Thanks.

I purchased from Tesco a couple of years back and couldnt see out of them. Had the glasses checked by the optician who then tested my eyes again and came back with the same prescription It wasnt till i went to Specsavers that THEY noticed what was wrong the lenses had been put in upside down and in the wrong side.
Tesco wouldnt do anything about it despite this info reagrding the lenses in the glasses being wrong and the manageress made it to be my fault !! so i put it down to experiance and told Tesco that they should stick to selling beans bread and milk

Go back and let them know you're struggling. There could be something wrong with the lenses. The measurements could be incorrect, or the sight test result could be wrong. Plus some people are just unable to adapt to varifocals. Give them a chance to put it right... You seem worried about going back? Give them a chance and come back if you don't get any joy.
  • If they are giving you a headache, then someting is wrong with them so take them back, and explain that you want them testing as you do not feel that they are right. If the lenses are wrong you are entitled to a refund or replacement.

  • Just thought I'd update you on the outcome of me going back about my specs.
I had to have a re-test with a different optician yesterday who came to the conclusion that I had the wrong prescription and had no idea why I had been advised to have varifocals.
I only need to have reading glasses as before and then not that strong so could easily use the one's I have already (which is what I'm back to doing already)
I got a full refund I'm pleased to say.
    Thankyou for everyone's advice.
