How to make a hen night special?

Hi,
It's my friend's hen night this weekend and we're keeping it pretty simple and having a nice meal out with a pub / club to follow.

Any suggestions as to help mark it i.e. make it special for her? We don't really want to dress her up in the whole veil and L plates thing we just really want her to have a lovely time.

What do you think?

A cake? Round of special cocktails? A pamper basket with bubbly stuff?
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

I had a lovely hen night just over 2 weeks ago. The best bit about it? I was there with all my friends! I didn't have any L-plates or a veil - it's just not me. How about kick starting the evening with a round of bubbly though? I turned up, to find that all my friends had arrived and were waiting for me with 4 bottles of champagne. That was a lovely start!

How about buying a really pretty journal and having everyone that is coming write something nice in it (ahead of time) about your friend? Everyone can have a few pages to write - or add a photo or story or recipe - basically any theme type thing that would suit your friend? We did something similar for a friends 40th and she really loved it.

Or how about asking everyone to give you a photo of either your friend or them and your friend etc and buy a really nice big frame and have it framed as a wedding gift from the hen girls?

Would someone be able to visit the restaurant ahead of time with a surprise cake?

Have a great time and enjoy.

Many thanks - and I'd be glad of anymore ideas. I love them all - champers, cocktails and book. She's not a big drinker though and I need to watch the cost.

Doesn't have to be champagne, any fizzy stuff is sure to go down well.Oh, and I got a book too. One of my bridesmaids had organised it with photos and notes from my friends - memories of our friendship

  • How about making her a little survival kit for the day - my best friend put one together and it was so thoughtful and actually got used loads!! I had pretty tissues, perfume sample, baby wipes, safety pins, lipgloss, disposable camera and loads of other things. Best thing is, you've probably got most of these things around the house. Just buy a pretty bag/box to put them in!

how rude! ok shes only getting married once (hopefully!) but doesnt mean she should do soemthing she doesnt want to. What her friends have planned sounds much nicer (IMHO)

OP - i would echo the photos and book ideas...we created several large photo frames, all with different 'theme'...some were photos all from when we were at school, one with all college photos. Ok, so the ones of us from school are hidden away somewhere so no-one has to see the really bad photos, but she knows she has it as a lasting memory of earlier times.

    have a good time!

When one of my friends was getting married a couple of years ago, all the girls going to the hen night wrote a poem for/about her (mostly humourous, we weren't really touchy feely types, but each to their own), we all emailed them to the girl who was co-ordinating it and she printed them out nicely and put them in a folder. Then after we'd had our meal, and the wine had been flowing, we each read out our poems.....The bride to be was delighted and she has a wee keepsake in the form of the scrapbook of poems....
