Faulty watch bought in high street store but lost receipt

My girlfriend bought me a watch a couple of weeks ago from a high street store but has lost the receipt. The fault is the watch doesn't keep time. I just want it to be exchanged, so we're not looking for a refund, but she has lost the receipt. Does she have a right to an exchange?

She will need some sort of proof of purchase. Did she pay by card? If so a statement will suffice.0
