Problem buyer threatening bad feedback

Last week I had a pair of brand new grey boots listed on Ebay. Someone got in touch and asked if I would add a buy it now. We discussed and agreed a price, I added a buy it now and they bought them. I posted next day and the buyer received them a few days later.

I then get an email saying that she didn't like the colour and would I accept a return. I replied saying that I wouldn't as it is not my fault she didn't like the colour and suggested she sell them on. She didn't like that so then claimed that my description was misleading as she wanted light grey boots and the ones she got are a darker grey. I replied saying that I had not mentioned light or dark grey just grey and the photos reflected the boots. She then said that she had been in contact with ebay and they said that she could say they were not as described. Now she has threatened me with poor feedback unless I refund.

What would you do?

1) Refund and take the potential hit on feedback and hope that she agrees to cancel the sale so I get fees back
2) Go through resolution centre knowing that I will probably lose but at least I will get fees back and it might annoy her further

I hate being held over a barrel so part of me wants to be as awkward as possible especially when I know she just doesn't like the colour. I have 900+ feedback with 1 neg.

TIA

Keep copies of the emails or messages where she has threatened negative feedback because if she does end up leaving negative feedback you will have grounds to get it removed because of the threats.

I would definatley go through the resolution centre, that way, when the dispute is escalated, she must return the boots via a trackable method to prove you have received them.
  • Just wanted to add, that I have had a few cases of people moaning that the colour is not what they thought that i often wonder if it is best not to mention colour or to maybe to add to every listing that colour may vary slightly for example, anything just to cover your back should they go to dispute
More likely they dont fit or she doesnt like them so pulling a fast one.
Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D

Fight any claim through Ebay. I have had a few people try and claim something is not as described when it is and have won every time. Don't let people get away with it.

    Most SNAD claims win, unfortunately.
  • So describing something as grey, which is grey is a valid "item not as descibed". I am getting really worried about ebay, I have loads of stuff I want to sell, but am getting more scared than ever now.

I know! It is ridiculous. Apparently I should have been more specific.

Thanks for all the comments. I will say we should go through the resolution centre. At least I can try to fight it then although I am sure I will lose.
