Cheap new car with "cred" for 21 year old?
Our son has big ideas about cars but little money!
At present he has an ageing top of the range Laguna but it is proving costly to maintain.
We've persuaded him to have something cheaper but everything we suggest he rejects.
We want a new or newish 3 door car. If new we would like at least 3 years' warranty and servicing included or free insurance, etc.
Does anyone have any idea of the cheapest car a 21 year old son can be expected to drive and still maintain his "cred" with his mates?

How about a Toyota Aygo? Group 1 insurance and 60mpg.0 -
You can probably get a Corsa SXi with some free insurance cheap.
1.2 engine but the styling of a more sporty model.
Nice big vauxhall discount as well.

Ford puma? I am planning to get one myself.
I believe this is the best small car for the package. Excellent handling, 2door coupe, decent performance and good looks. The 1.7i is the one to get but insurance is group 12. You can do alot to the car is terms of mods; bigger alloys and stainless steel exhaust setup etc.
Ah... when I was 21 I was driving a pug 205 1.1 to keep cost down and build up experience. Some youngsters these days

Someone has suggested the Toyota Aygo which goes for around £6K - £7K. We could probably run to this sort of figure.0

We do a lot of first-cars for youngsters, and there are some decent sub-£7/8k brand new deals around this month....Citroens, Fiesta, Ka's, Aygo, Hyundai's and Kia models, some of the new Clio's and some of the Peugeot small 107's etc.
We've just sold a metallic black 3dr Fiesta to one of our office neighbours and I'm looking at it in the car park now..fab' car for a 20-something, especially ther 3dr bodyshape.
All the current manuf'r bonus deals finish on 30th June as that is the end of the current marketing calendar quarter, new deals will be launched on most brands by July 3rd for the 3rd calendar quarter which will take us right through to the end of September.
Plates change on 1st Sep' to new '56 plates.
If your boy is looking to get the right deal to keep him in a car with a decent residual value for when he wants to change it, avoid Corsa as the current model is 'tired' and needs it's imminent facelift badly (hence all the deals to get rid of unsold stock), and obsolete models that are already out of production will lose money & street cred' faster than a current production model.
