usb mouse not recognised

Hi, hope this is the right place for this.
My wireless mouse has suddenly stopped working, the laptop is saying usb not recognised/malfunction! When you remove the usb it is too burny hot to touch (it wasn't like this before) I have tried other usb's and they work and another mouse, so guess it isn't a laptop. It has had no problems at all before.
This was a gift which I got in August, it was bought from PC World. Can I take it back without a receipt and ask, or do you think they will do nothing about it?
Grateful for any advice :D

I think you should let it off the wheel sometimes, then his feet wont get too hot running round and round ;)

Id take it to that well known purple computer selling shop near you - ask for Kaz, tell her you are a friend of mine and you dont know what to do, and (assuming she doesnt call security straight off!) she should be able to help you.... :D
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup
  • Return it its busted now. Get a new Logitech mouse, they are one of the best.

It sounds like a short within the USB plug or adjacent wiring.

Without a receipt, PC World will almost certainly not be able to help - generally their policy is that you must show proof of purchase. However, if the manufacturer is a well known one, they may replace it as a gesture of goodwill.

For example, Logitech replaced the transmitter on my wireless mouse even though it was out of warranty.
