Never asked for ID anymore

Options
Not really sure this is a praise, vent or a warning - just a general comment.

I'm not even 20 yet, but in the last 6 months or so, I haven't been asked for ID once for alcohol. Whether it be drinking out or in supermarkets.

It was something that really used to annoy me, but now I kinda miss it. Not sure why, but it seems weird not being asked every 5 minutes especially since the supermarkets are now introducing the 25 policy.

  • Whereas on the flip side I'm nearly 24 and still get ID'd every time, whether its in the pub or the supermarket. Even after work in work clothes, with friends who are my age and upwards.

I don't look young, though probably not over 25. I understand why they have to do it but it is tiresome.

I wonder what will happen when I get to 25... (nothing probably, I shall have to take up smoking and sunbeds to make myself look older ;))

    whereabouts do you live Glider??

I have been asked fairly recently - and I'm almost 32...!! I was flattered - and I wasn't even wearing my work uniform (I keep my profession a secret on here - but it is relevant to this conversation!!)

but back to Glider - I am sure it's just because they recognise you, and remember that they've already seen your ID before......!!
Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??

It is most companies' policies to ask every time regardless of whether ID has been seen before.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

The only time I have ever been asked for ID is when I was 27 even though like quite a few people we were drinking in pubs and buying booze from various supermarkets from the age of about 16. Must admit though if we did ever get beer from a shop we always drunk it at a house rather than hanging about on the streets, that is something I can never see the point in.

  • I got asked if I was over 25 today whilst buying wine. Think he was joking as I have been over that age for nearly 40 years.:-)

I must admit when I ran a pub I used to ID pretty much everyone I didn't know unless it was obvious they were over 21 but if there was even 1% doubt they got asked.

I served a friend of mine who was 20 at the time and some little old lady made a snide comment about me serving under age kids because he did look younger. After that I started asking people for ID who came in for the pensioners special meals as it works both ways.

The best I had with ID though was a lad who came in with his mate wearing a badge saying it was his 18th birthday so when I asked him he couldn't show me any ID but went to the paper shop across the road, came back with the local paper and showed me a picture of a young kid in the birthdays section and said that was him. Nice try son but on your bike :D:D

  • I got carded yesterday, in a pub in the middle of nowhere, and I'm 26! The people in the group were me, a 27 year old, a 31 year old and (admittedly) a 19 year old.

Went in the same pub 3 weeks before that with the same group and not once got asked. It appears to be rather random.
