Car changes price as I agreed purchase

Options
Hi there

I would like to ask some advice about a car purchase please!

Quite odd really, wife and I were looking at a car today that we really liked and were about to purchase.

However after initially being told that the car would come with a service, new MOT and 12 months warranty the offer of a service to put a couple of things right was withdrawn and the price on the screen suddenly became the 'trader' price and not retail.

This car is a at a main dealer and is still on their site and on Autotrader.

The new price was not advised until its been checked by the workshop.....yeah right.

Help, I want this car, but where do I stand?

  • They can do that I'm afraid - yes its not fair.

Technically they can choose what price to sell at and change their mind - they are not obliged to sell the car to you at any price I'm afraid. If they wanted to, if you offered to buy the car, they could put the price up. If you reluctantly agreed to the new price, they could put it up again and so on and so forth - traders don't do this because a) they would lose a lot of business and trading standards would probably pay them a visit.
