I need a shower!

I've recently fitted shower mixer taps on my bath - surprised myself actually as I had visions of having to call a plumber if I messed it up!
Anyway, problem is it seems my hot water pressure is so low that it's practically useless as a shower - the cold water comes out of the shower fine but hot doesn't want to know! The higher that I raise the shower head the slower the mixed hot and cold comes out - until it's only cold coming out.
I live in a flat 6th floor of a 7 storey building so the hot water tank is in the kitchen next door to the bathroom, and the cold water tank is above it.
Any ideas if there's any way I can get to increase the hot water speed/pressure??? Or am I just better off having a "real" shower unit installed supplied by the cold water only?
Thanks.

A "Real" shower as you put it is actually an electric shower, without the correct electrics already installed this isn't likely to be cheap.
Your alternative is pumped shower, but the problem I see there is I'd almost guarantee your cold and hot water tanks wouldn't be up to the job. So even more expensive.
If budget is the biggest concern then a mains pressure electric unit is the way to go, but needs to be installed professionally. Don't skimp on the shower unit itslef - get something like a Mira Sport, good value for money, will last a long time.
In London you'd be looking at £400-£450 ish to supply and fit, not sure what that would be in the Manchester area though. Maybe more sensible up there, but do make sure you get a certified electrician to do the electrical installation for you and get the relevant paperwork from him once it's done.0
