When does child tax credit stop

My son is doing his A level exams this week, and he will finish them by the end of this month. So when do I inform tax credits that he has left school? With family allowance the last payment is paid up unto the first week in september.I hope tax credit is the same as we are getting £100 week at the moment{child/working tax} and from when my son leaves school it will go down to 00pence as my wife works 25hours/and I work 10hours.So I want to hang on to these payments as long as I can...

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

He is only classed as a qualifying young person whilst in education, so I would expect that the end date would be the official end of his college course.

Best bet is to get the offical end date and then ring the TC office up and ask them which date they need.

official end date will be last day the child attends college/school (usually his last exam) this could be late june or july.
we will only use the 31/8/06 if the child then goes straight onto FTAE (uni etc or degree level course is started).

I have just rang the tax credit people and they have told me to ring back in august(31/8/06) as my daughter is going on to uni. so for me they will be paying until 31/08/06.

thanx everyone .My son is planning to go to university...although he wont know until he gets his results anyway{which surely brings you into a grey area}....Glad someone got an answer from family credit{elaine]. As I have rung twice and got two differant wishy washy answers from people who obviously did,nt know.As I said on my first thread ,we receive £100 week child/family tax credit which will completely stop when he leaves school..So getting paid until 31st august{instead of end of june} will bring in an extra £800 from when his exams finish..which will be very useful...l

My daughter did her A levels last year and I got tax credits up until the end of August and have just been sent a form to fill in to finalise it. Mind you they made such a mess up of last years credits I am not sure if that is right
