Lg 32 lh3000 tv

I'm hoping to buy a new TV in the new year and would be grateful for your views/advice on the LG 32 LH3000. It's 1080HD - is it worth paying extra for that?

Any other TVs you would recommend?

My lounge is vey small and I'll be sitting about 2.70m from the TV. Would a 37" TV be too big?

i have the 37" version,i would go for the 37" at that distance TBH Im thinking i should have gone 40"
    very good picture,excellent on 1080p
however dont expect amazing sound from it,i run mine through a seperate speaker set up as i found the onboard speakers lacking.
however my last tv was a CRT with built in subwoofer so i was probably expecting more

I got the 37" from Currys recently (on offer at £399) for my parents. They are very happy with it, but feel it is a touch too big - and the room is a reasonable size.

You can get too big a TV, as they can be a bit overbearing in a smaller room.

Certainly worth getting full HD (1080), but only if you are getting an HD source in the near future - eg SKY HD, Freesat HD or BluRay.

Otherwise, no HD source, no HD picture (OK you can upscale, but that is not the quite the same)

    Thanks, Custardy and Bikertov.

It might be wiser to go for the 32" then.

We have just got a 32" after debating whether 37" would be too big or not. Went in the stores and stood back at approx the same distance we would be in our room.. Even measured the size of the TV overall to see if it would fit in the corner. Went for the 32" as that seemed more comfortable on the eye. Upgraded from a old 26". They look good in the showrooms, but very different on there own in a corner :-)

I have a 46" sony and im approx 3meters from the tv with no problems at all. The 'scalers' on the tv make a big difference if your going to be watching a lot of SD content. A bad scaler on a large tv will look awful

What is the best way to judge a good up-scaler from a bad one ?

Are any brands / models better than others in this respect ?

    Crikey ~ its a minefield
Best I can suggest is check reviews.
This sites very good for stripping tvs down to the bare bones ~

Pioneer tvs are renouned for having the best scalers, but are no longer made. All the other makes are sketchy. I have a sony for example which is known to have a good scaler in. But some other models are very poor for scaling. There are other issues too, how good they are at deinterlacing etc
Its not like you can even test them properly either as most tvs scalers tend to have a 'run in' period. And as very few places have them set up for SD content then it can take a week or 2 to decide!
So again, best advice I can give is check reviews
