mums home insurance wont cover electrical fault, advice please

My mum and dad have buidings and contents insurance with Churchill. They have never made a claim in 45 years. Last week they put the dishwasher on and went to bed. hi everyone,
thanks for your advice - without it I would never have argued with Churchill!
The upshot is, Hotpoint offered to replace the dishwasher but my mum is frightened of it now, so they have offered her £200 which would be the value of a replacement. It was 10 years old so that seems good to me.
Churchill have assessed the damage and are going to pay for the smoke and fire damage to be sorted out.
So thanks again everyone xxx
