Amazon International Postage Charges

Hi everyone.....
I'm posting this on behalf of my partner who'd recently ordered an audio book to send to to a friend in Australia. Upon ordering the audio book, my partner was expecting a reply back from Amazon indicating how much the postage was going to be. This was received after the order had been processed by the Amazon and was winging its way to Australia. The charge for postage was almost double what my partner had calculated what it was going to be. It would appear that Amazon had, in fact, charged the same cost for postage for the audio book as a normal book would have been charged. Despite several clear and concise e-mails to Amazon, the powers that be seem to be purposely ignoring my partners issue and won't give a reply why the charges are the same, bearing in mind that the weight of an audio book is far lighter than say a paperback.
Does anyone have similar experiences and if so, did you find a resolution?
Many thanks
K
