Paypal name change issues

I'd like to change my name on Paypal as I got married in the summer, but unfortunately they won't let me do it without a 'valid' photo id. I don't drive, so don't have a drivers licence and my passport is in my maiden name - only got it last year and am not going to pay £85 (or whatever it is) just to change paypal.

Anyways, my question is, my bank cards are now in my married name, but are registered on Paypal under my maiden name - all I did was amend the expiry date at the time, it didn't even occur to me about my name! Am I committing any kind of crime by having my cards under my maiden name?

Sorry if this seems to be a stupid question, but I have no idea!! If I am, I presume it means that I have to take my cards off Paypal - I also imagine I would have to take my joint account off as well as it was originally registered under my maiden name (and is now in my married name).

I find it ludicrous that Paypal won't accept my passport in its current form along with my marriage certificate when the banks will (I've just opened a new bank account, which is what prompted me to sort Paypal out!).

Any advice??

Not sure about the legal standpoint, but my wife uses her cards on my paypal and me on her account (and has for years) without any problems. She also has one bank account in her maiden name (as HSBC are !!!!!!) which she uses with no problems

I got married over a year ago and have only just (weeks ago) changed my name with Paypal after getting my new passport in my married name.
In the previous year I had added and deleted various cc's and bank accounts from my Paypal account, in maiden and married names and have never had a problem, despite all the warnings saying your name must match exactly etc.
The bank account, cards etc all belong to you, so I can't see how it could possibly be a crime.
You don't have to delete your cards and accounts if you do not wish, and you can add ones in your new name, like when cards expire and stuff.
My main bank account is in my maiden name, my Paypal account is also but it still shows as bank account-miss maiden name.
I wouldn't worry yet if you don't want to.

Thanks guys!!! I haven't tried adding the cards on in my 'current' name as I wasn't sure if it would flash up saying the details were wrong!! But I'll give it a go next time I'm on there!

If you have problems adding your cards there. Another way of doing it is if you go to pay for something click on add funding source and you can add a card there and it will add it to your paypal account. Thats how we added my wife's card to my account as it didn't like us doing it directly
