Windows live mail not sending

Have just purchased a small netbook for travel. Have downloaded and installed windows live mail. At home we are able to create, send and receive emails using our talktalk accounts.

However we are now connected to the web via my sisters wireless network. No problem with surfing or receiving emails from talktalk. However when we try to send emails via talktalk it fails with various server error messages. I doubt it's a problem at the talk talk end - anyone know if there are any account settings that we could change to get our emails sent?

Hello, your talk talk email account isn't set up on your pc but on talk talk servers (the internet). windows live email is set up on your pc so you are correct in thinking you need the talk talk server settings to send emails through. If you go to their home page there is always a help section for email programmes like windows live that will tell you the settings you require and how to do them.

However it is probably the case that Talk Talk mail servers will only accept you sending mail from a Talk Talk connection. I assume that your sister uses a different ISP.

!!!!!! is correct. ISP do not normally allow you to send mail from other ISPs email addresses. It's nothing to do with the mail software you are using.

I'm presuming your sister is not with TalkTalk?

Her ISP is preventing you from 'relaying' your TalkTalk email via their servers. It's a security measure.

Most ISPs aren't fussy about who you download mail from, it's sending that is the problem!

I never mentioned the client, I was talking about the mail server.

    Hi Parcival,

Could you confirm if your sister is with TalkTalk or a different provider please? If your sister is with a different provider then you'll need to change the outgoing mail server to whatever her ISPs settings are. If your sister is with TalkTalk then you should not experience problems with sending over her connection and we'll have to look at things a little closer for you.

    Cheers
