Ihave just received my renewal quote with new premium £286 full comp (+12.3%) car is Skoda Fabia Comfort 1.4 100 bhp 5 dr hatch 2003 53 reg. I have named drivers that some would consider not required but I prefer to keep on policy. Renewal is due July and I am 70 in August. The policy has a guranteed NCD which is included in the above price. Accidents which all would be below £1000 were in 8/91, 6/98, and 2/03. I have been driving since age 18. My post code is BH24 xx
Your thoihgts on premium and any other relevant issues will be appreciated, but note please that the cheapest is not my aim if it will likely bring hassle etc.

Hi - as you are based in Hants two local firms to try are Frizzell and AIS.They both have offices in Bournemouth. If the named drivers are also of mature age then your renewal looks a bit expensive. The accidents are unlikely to increase the premium as they are all over 3 years ago.

I am with one of thsoe you mention.
One point is how will a new insurer assess me for NCD- how may years will I have earned? Will my reacjing 70 affext either this year or next the premiuma?0 -
It does look a little high but not silly.
Depending which insurer you are with will dictate if the 2/03 claim will affect the premium (and you didnt mention if it was fault or not so I assume it was)
The "problem" is that once you get past a certain age your premiums do start to go back up again. Depending on the ages of your named drivers this may be having a compounded effect.
A lot of insurers now a days also increase premiums each renewal as they make a loss at new business trying to get business and then have to claw it back and as the majority dont check their premium prices every year they can "get away" with a slow creep (esp as for most people their car is a year older, they are a year older so the decrease in premiums for these balances off the creep up of base premium)All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Hi - my typo 1st time round as it should be RAIS.The R stands for retirement so they are specialists in that age group.Worth getting a rate from for comparison.
I would expect you to be back on maximum NCD with most companies by now but their NCD scales all differ.
If you have ever had a government connected job you may be eligible for CSMA which gives you a discount of around 10% from Frizzells rates.
Generally rates start climbing again once you are above 65 or 70.

Nmaed are daughter. son, and son-in-law all mid 30s. I am XSMa member and insurance is with Frizzella as it happens. Daughter is LA worker and had accident last year but not sure if she claimed. She is with same insurer.0

As a comparison for you.
CSMA member insured with Frizzells.
Age 65
Renault Megane Priviledge Estate, 1.9DCi 54 plate
Comprehensive
Full and protected NCD
Anual Premium.......£215.45
Ins. Prem. Tax.......£10.77
Total....................£226.22
Edit. Forgot to add, just me and spouse and no other named drivers.0 -
Yep. it's the named frivers and cover for any driver over 25that's the problem. It seem that taking the nameds off and stopping cover for other drivers would reduce the premium. However I'd not deel safe because were I ill or similar I'd be stranded or risk losing my car or not being coveredif someone else drove. Or am I misinterpreting things wrongly or too pessimistically?0

Do your named drivers have their own policies on their own vehicles? Most insurers (but no longer all) allow a policyholder to drive anyone elses vehicle (but not other vehicles owned or leased to you) with the owners consent on a Third Party Only basis. This obviously isnt very good if it is your partner who drives the car every other day but is fine (and intended for) for emergencies like you describe.
Note that the Driving Other Cars cover is normally only for the policyholder and not named drivers. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Quote obtained for two nameds under 36 and any over 36 10k miles/yr £100 excess NCD protected £230. Insurer Fortis. My average mileage in last 3 yrs is well below 10K.

you can knock your mileage down on the quotes and bump the excess up to £250. Should bring it down to around the £200 mark or under.0
