Well done for sorting this out and talking to your husband about it. He sounds like a fantastic person and certainly very supportive - my husband would of reacted completely differently.
I really hope things will settle with the awkwardness which is to be expected of course it is still fresh news.
Good luck and update us so we know all is ok xDebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

Hi "I will get out of debt" Your opening post bought a tear to my eye because I can relate to you that feeling of !!! as you describe it! There are v few if any people close to me who know the exact level of my debt, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Please know this website can also be your lifeline, and the support and understanding from so many who are endeavouring to turn a negative into a positive is life changing. The journey is not smooth all the time but with here and indeed the support of your dh all will be well.My debts at LBM (2009)Grand Total £161,983.77.(Incs everything, mtge, cr cards, loans)

My FiL is coming round to night at 7:30 to have a chat with me. Apparenty he has a plan in mind to get this mess sorted. I am bricking it tbh; just the thought of going through all my statements with someone else is making me feel physically sick. He has said that he won't share anything I say to him with my husband unless I want him to, but I want everything out in the open.
Wish me luck folks. This is it - my journey towards being debt-free has begun.£365 in 365 days - £187/£365

All I can say is, you've done the hardest bit. It can only get better from here.
Good luck, and if you would like help from the hundreds of people here to shave money from your collective finances for faster repayments (if that is the route you wish to go), see one of the Stickies at the top of the forums for information on how to post a Statement of Affairs.
Good luck. You're in good company.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

it is scary how debts mount up over the years...I kept borrowing my way out of trouble until I hit a brick wall recently, realised I have passed the big 50 ( agewise!) and had better make it my goal to start dealing with this debt before I get too old!. It was almost like being in the AA for debt when I filled out the debt remedy form on the CCCS website! The folks on this site have been a godsend and I have learned loads. I was about to go with a feepaying debt management company when I discovered CCCS on here. You have taken a major positive step and will find a sense of relief when you see a solution is in sight. It may take us a while but we are all in this together!£12 799 debt 16.10.2009 :eek:0

Massive well done for admitting it all to your hubby - he sounds like he is being fantastic with it all.
I'm sure you FIl will be a big help and just think, you will never have to go through this again and you have started on teh road to get out of it!New surname New start!

So my FiL came around and I have given him all my current statements of amounts owing. He was fantastic, I have to say. He is going to contact someone he knows who specialises in offering part payments to credit card companies first off. We shall see what comes of that, but he is hopeful that they should be able to write off at least some of my debt.
I am finally beginning to feel some relief about the whole sorry state of affairs, although that could be in part due to consuming a large volume of wine this eveningWhatever, I am starting to feel that, yes I may have made some stupid financial errors, but I am not a social pariah. There are many worse things that I could have done, and I (we) will get through this.

Hi Iwillgetoutofdebt
I can only echo the sentiments of others here and say that taking that deep breath and facing up to the debt is very very hard but you have done that...and well done. There are loads of people on this forum who'll be there and offer a virtual hand to hold so in the words of Corporal Jones of Dad's Army..."Don't Panic" and take things calmly, one small step at a time. After all, you can no longer be thrown into prison for your debts and they can't shoot you so things aren't too bad!.
Personally, CCCS have helped me and although I am still battling to get things sorted, I am still battling and not ands will not be defeated. Anyone who tells you that things will be easy is either a fool, a liar or both...sadly it won't be easy BUT it IS a problem that can be solved.
