    "Never ascripe to conspiracy..."

Could it be that the type of bags have been described, the guard has been shown the bags from the machine, but is the sort of person who needs it spelt out that a zip lock bag also fills the criteria?

    Quite possibly.

I knew I was right! So do you think the airport is doing this to make money then or just to be akward? It seems a little daft to me, especially with the amount of people they are upsetting!

    Yes!

I flew to Paris from Liverpool earlier this year and it was all charges... Didnt have a problem with the bags at all but I was amazed to see the length of the queues for security and the offer of a "Fast Track" pass for £3 or so. :D

A cynic would wonder if the low number of security staff would make the Fast Track more appealing....;)

I am not going to discuss on a forum how these kind of things are used to construct 'items'.I was told how these idiots do it and the alerts by a friend in the security services.

:rotfl: Wasnt someone called "Q" by any chance.

It's most likely not airport policy, you just got some over-zealous security person.

Just be glad it was Liverpool, airport security staff in the UK are positively charming compared to the neanderthals they seem to employ in US airports.
  • The same in Manchester last week! Buy 2 bags for a £1 though! They were quite hot on putting stuff in them and made sure you had the correct type of bag!

Belfast was awful for it back when it was being refurbished. And I only had a £20 note on me and then I had to run and get change and then rush back again.

Newcastle are much better, they provide the bags free of charge and leave them there for you to pick up. I usually take a handful. For some reason whenever I take aerosols on, I always get my bag searched even with the bags, so I've stopped doing it now!

It's a well known fact that terrorists have had special training at camps in Libya in how to bring down a fully secured jet using just the plastic zip bit from a sandwich bag....hence the increased security action.
  • I'd bet you wouldn't be complaining if your 'plane had been blown up and everyone on board killed.:p
  • Last year when we flew to Lanzarote I had stupidly allowed my (then 5 year old) son to pack his own bag. It wasn't until all the alarms went off and 2 armed guards came running over that I realised he had decided to pack 2 of his Power Ranger guns :o

There was a very embarrased Mum and Dad and a very upset little boy that day (they took the guns off him)

Nothing to do with plastic bags, but this thread reminded me !
