BT say they will cut me off

Hey,
I have my phone/broadband service with Sky, but we pay BT line rental.
We've got a bill with BT for £300 which we can't afford to pay at the moment. We've offered them £30 a month but they say they want a full payment by December 4th or they will terminate my services.
Is there anyway I can leave BT for the line rental and let Sky manage my line rental? If so will BT have any power over my phone line if we have all services with Sky inc line rental?

If you only have your line rental with BT but have a bill from them for £300, that suggests you haven't paid them for over 2 years.
It is unlikely Sky would be willing to take over your line until you have cleared the outstanding amount with your exisiting supplier.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I am assuming this is your first BT bill including the connection charge of £122.50? I also assume it includes line rental for 3 months of £37.50 + a £4.50 payment processing fee as you do not pay by DD and an extra £7.50 late payment fee. This totalling comes to... £172. Did you also make a mass amount of calls from the phone in the first 14 days when your calls were not yet with Sky? Does this sound about right??0

Surely BT would not release the line until the debt is settled?
If it is the first bill incl. connection fee, then the OP is presumably still in contract with BT for the remainder of the minimum term, so there would be an additional charge for early termination on top.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi Shaneo85,
I'd be happy to look into this for you and see if I can setup a payment plan that suits us both so we can get the balance clear on your account. You can email me at btcare@bt.com including your account details and I'll be in touch.
I'll look forward to hearing from you soon.
