other technology forums

hi, does anyone know of any good technology forums, as my geforce 6600gt graphics card seems to be playing up for like a week

keep getting errors when trying to play intensive games like pro evo (even though i've been playing it for months with no problems), and fifa (but it is fine with games like dynasty warriors)

thanks!

In repect of your problem, have you checked the gfx chip is cooling ok? Is the fan working / heatsink fixed ok? It sound like it's going wrong under load.

    thanks!

FWIW, if it's an older model such as just over a year old since purchased, then it could be that it's over heating. The 'old' ones were prone to certain chips on the board itself getting really hot.

You can test this yourself, leave it running underload, this will give you time to goto the freezer and extract a couple of ice-cubes, return to the computer and using two fingers you don't use very often, grab the card, the searing hot pain you will eventually feel in your finger tips, isn't meant to be there. It's a sign the card is over-heating, release card, grab ice-cubes and apply to area where searing hot pain was. I sugest you don't use either your index finger, the middle finger or the thumb for this task, as you will need to sign some forms at the post office when you return it to your chosen retailer. of course, you could use a thermometer to do this test, but it isn't as cheap or and it has to be said as effective as the finger tip method. Expect to suffer the effects of this experience for 6 weeks or so

I can't remember the details now, but I had a BFG card which had this problem, good job their cards come with a lifetime warranty, otherwise I would have been stuck with the card.

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.
