Sainsbury's card is from RBS like Tescos. Assuming they treat all cards the same, this will be considered a purchase rather than a transfer I think.

I don't know about Paypal, but Sainsbury's card is provided by HBOS, not RBS as Tesco one.

Several issuers have changed their opinion on paypal recently so it is best to phone them and as the current thinking rather than relying from advice here which may be a couple of months out of date.

Paypal appears as a purchase transaction on my Mint card so wouldn't see why Sainsburys would be any difference.

sainsburys have changed their terms, and paypal is now classed as a cash withdrawl, rather than a purchase

  • Remember that there are charges from paypal too.
  • MBNA Platinum Plus treats it as a purchase.
