PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME!!!!!
 I may ramble but i'm at my wits end.i'll try to keep it shortish, I am unfortuatly at this moment a very unhappy client of WOLSTENHOLMES. I stupidly only went on the information provided on there website i didn't think to search forums to check them out. Aug 2009 after 12 months on the market i rec'd & accepted an offer on my home 20k less than initially marketed for. So i was looking for ways to save money (big mistake) I found a new home so wanted sale/purchase i paid £450 upfront the rest on completion. My home being sold to FTB the house i put offer in on is vacant.Aug all systems go instructed to act on my behalf, first few weeks no complaints, after week 8 & no news i tried to contact the assigned solictor by phone, message left no reply, emailed got brief response " everything going to plan" week 11 again after numerous emails & messages left for callback i rec'd a callback from an assistant who did not know what she was taking about she stated i was selling a flat i advd she should know the property i am selling is a 3 bed mid terrace. After another couple of weeks of not replying to my emails or returning my calls.I was then contacted at work by my EA on 16th nov who informed me if no completion date within next 2 weeks the seller is going to withdraw & taking his house of the market. I Contacted WOLSTENHOLMES to advise this again no reply re message left. However did recieve callback tues 17th november @5.50pm to be told everything now recieved & just needed to confer with other solicitors. Monday 23rd November recieved another call from EA who advised my buyer had raised 1 final query in regards to lease but nothing complicatd . Again emailed & left messages for callback. No response. Tues 24th novemeber called & emailed again. email sent at 11.03am recieved read receipt @ 12.35. still no reply emailed again wed 25th nov i also emailed copy of email from mon & tues along with read receipt, Finally emailed me " will check file in morning" Thursday 26th nov no response, friday 27th nov message left again for call back email also sent. Friday again recieved read receipt. Got again brief reply "will check file mon 30th November". Monday is the last day we have got before our offer is withdrawn.
What can i do totally wrecked by it all we are 3 weeks from xmas i have a demanding job, 2 kids ..

  • Your post is too confusing for this feeble mind to untangle and the run-on sentences are not helping. I appreciate that you're very stressed about the situation but is there any way you could boil it down to a couple of sentences? Who are these Wolstenholme people, the estate agents, conveyancing firm, mortgage advisors?

I think Wolstenholme are an online conveyancing company? Is this correct?
  • I can't believe these people are still trading and taking people's hard earnt money - they should be struck off !!

From what I remember, they have an intensive and pressurised telephone strategy promising this that and the other, take your deposit, then once on board, treat you like, well I don't know, nobody ever gets back to you!!!

I was one of the lucky one's - I got my money back, went local, (which I should have done at the outset - I know - cheap isn't best), and still managed to complete on time, but by the looks of it, your only option may be to lose the house you are wanting as you are two far down the journey, and start afresh.

God, you have my sympathies, as if moving isn't stressful enough. I was only with them 2 weeks before I realised my errors and pulled the plug.

If anybody is in any doubt about Wolstenholme's, then just do a search in the forums - there is tons of feedback - all negative.

Spread the word - DON'T TOUCH THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I'm an EA and have had dealings with them, I definitely agree that they are absolutely terrible. Never return calls (to me or their client), and have totally mucked things up from start to finish. I'm not sure how they can be as bad as they are and get away with it! It does show you get what you pay for with some things.
Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.

    BEWARE!!!!! MAJOR PROBLEMS!!!!!!

I have (foolish as I did not check MSE) instructed these b*******s for my conveyancing

    They were entirely inept
Today I tried contacting may different people/depts - no luck
    Think they've closed

Then rang Solicitors Regulation Authority, who confirm they have received many similar complaints since Fri 11 Dec 2009, but won't tell me (the innocent consumer) what's afoot

I suspect there's major problems here

    Don't touch with a bargepole!!!

Also SRA is mostly about protecting fellow b******d lawyers!!

    How prophetic of you !

This conveyancing firm has just been shut down and five solicitors have had their licenses suspended by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) amid claims of dishonest behaviour.

According to the BBC the Legal Complaints Commission (LCC) is dealing with 116 complaints from customers who say they have lost money. In a statement it said it intervened on December 24 and 27, adding: "The grounds for the intervention were suspected dishonesty and breaches of the Solicitors Accounts and Practice Rules."

An SRA spokesman said "For those who fear they have lost money, it will be dealt with by the solicitors indemnity insurance or the SRA Compensation Fund."

Such words are of no comfort to those seller’s and buyers who feel abandoned.
  • Under the SRA administration you will be able to transfer your file over. You can use another firm like FRidays to finish your transaction. You can find thier details all over this website. I've used them myself and they were very good

Nothing to do with Wolstenholmes are they?

Funny how low count posters are suddenly coming out of the woodwork and pushing this company since the demise of Wolstenholmes.

I would be very careful if I was you as they may have involvement or be starting up again under another name?
  • I used this outfit for conveyancing earlier this year. The conveyancing was completed but the service was little short of outrageous.

They still owe me approx. £700 for 'failure to account' (didn't pass on funds). I lodged a complaint through the Legal Complaints Service and return of funds plus compensation was agreed. Cheque should have arrived before Christmas but surprise, surprise....nothing arrived. Legal Complaints updated me on the SRA position a few days ago. Appears that I will now need to go through their compensation fund - I should eventually recover the £700 but not sure about the compensation.
Annoyed with myself for not doing the research before agreeing to use them - there were many posts on the web about their poor service.
