Carpet choice - am I going for the right one.

Just been out for some carpet quotes and just looking for some non sales advice!

Looking to carpet two bedrooms - want decent quality but we might well rent the property out for a few years. Having looked at wool etc I think that a decent man made might be the way ahead for rental. The quotes I have had have all been around £600 ish all in.

Want a light colour - beige (actual one we liked was 'suede 331')

Rooms are: 3.38m x 3.86m and 3.3m x 3.86m

My questions:

1 - Am I right to not go for wool? Pretty high quality flat so it must look/feel good! I'm worried about tenants marking a wool carpet.
2 - Can anyone recommend a decent make of synthetic carpet - been pushed towards some made by "valley wholesale carpets" for £15.99/m. Seems OK.
3 - been offered 9mm 'Hyperactive' underlay - is this as good as the Cloud 9 stuff (shop reckons so) - They could fit for free - I would have to pay £60ish for cloud 9
4 - All in price (inc fitting, grip, hyperactive underlay) is £523 for two rooms - Is that a reasonable quote? Is it worth me paying the extra for different underlay? Quote for very similar 80/20 carpet was £700 (about £24/m)

Help appreciated - there is way to much choice out there!

I wish I could remember the name of this carpet. It is a nylon one but it was £31.99 a metre. But the man in the shop said if any bad spills go on it, it's ok to use a bit of bleach in the water to clean it. I even saved a piece for the dog to sit on in the garden when it's dry.
I think that what you chould do is buy the best underlay you can possibly afford, the underlay you've been advised to use if fine, it's a very good one.
That's not a bad price at all if it includes all that, you could shop around till your head spins and maybe only save a tenner....

Ask what to use to clean it so that you know when the time comes.....

Use a small dustbush to get all the little bits up after it's fitted, otherwise the bits get into the hoover motor as they are quite fine to filter.

Sorry do you mean the 'hyperactive' stuff or cloud 9?

I'm pretty certain I could use bleach on the stuff I was quoted for (polyprop)

I have had a few quotes (last year) and today's did seem competitive. My problem is I have no idea if the actual carpet is good quality or not!

    Info on carpet:
    Supplier: Valley Wholesale Carpets Ltd
    Quality: Durhan
    Colour: Suede 331
    Pile Content: 100% masterblend
    Backing: Actionback (was not foam)
    Suitability: Heavy Domestic

The hyperactive, it's ok. The only thing with a fully nylon carpet is it's a bit hard/rough under bare feet if you know what I mean?

I had the 80/20 and the (decent quality) manmade carpet next to each other and really there was very little difference between them touch wise.

    hi

I just had hyper tread underlay under a 100% polyprop carpet, its like walking on marshmallows.
my carpet fitter reckons this is better than cloud 9 too.
