I have been burning JPEG images to disc for a while now, but just recently a couple of discs have refused to show any images. The JPEG images (From digital camera) will play no problem on the PC, but our Panasonic DVD player is throwing a moody with them.
The latest disc is a brand new Memorex DVD+R. My question is, should I be using a CD rather than a DVD?
I know this may seem like a stupid question, but this problem has thrown me totally.
I have burnt the files on to disc as I always do, and I can look at the DVD files on the PC.

I imagine it shouldnt really matter if you are using a cd or dvd. Check your dvd player it may prefer -R over +R. Also disc quality can vary a lot and some are very unreliable. I have never used them but I hear memorex arnt the best discs in the world.0

Check the manual for your Panasonic DVD player to see if it will read DVD+R.
As garyjohn says, DVR-R is a safer bet, as almost all DVD players, even the older ones, will read them.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks folks, I was beginning to think nobody would provide an answer. I was wondering about the compatibility issue. I have used Memorex in the past, and never had a failure. As I say the disc played OK on my PC, but interestingly enough, it would not play on an old Dell laptop which has Windows 2000 installed.
I will have a look at the Panasonic manual (It would not play on a friend's Sony DVD of the same age - around six years old).
I have just checked, and the other CDs which all play OK are "-R".
Why do the manufacturers do this, I am now left with 50 DVD+R discs which are no use to me! I did ask the person in the shop, and they said that they would be OK.0 -
Why do the manufacturers do this,
Because there was a big format battle before both were released, Toshiba, sony, panasonic went with DVD +R and LG, sharp, hatachi went with DVD -R. The result is depending on what dvd player you have depends on what discs it will read.
The other thing is most pc/laptop's will read both formats!! it's a stupid situation.
Anyway 50 discs can be used for backup's etc or sell em on ebay.0 -
Right, here we go, more frustration and tearing out of hair.
The Panasonic DVD player would play back an Octron CD-R 700MB 40X disc.
It will not play the latest discs which I have purchased - Maxell CD-R 700MB 80X.
What is happening to this mad World which we are now living in?
My missus (who simply sits back and lets me make all the decisions) is accusing me of wasting all the money and buying rubbish!!!!!
I really love it when people who decide not to take responsibility for anything in their lives, point the finger at someone else when things go wrong!
And breathe.
Rant over.
Someone please help, because I used to be fairly competent at "techie" things, and now everything seems to be difficult, or doesn't work.0
