I cannot understand how Tescos (and presumerably other online supermarkets) are allowed to disclude end dates on their special offers if the date of delivery falls later. Here is an example to make it a little clearer:
Tesco offer states "Buy 2 for 1 Valid from 10/11/09 until 29/11/09" Shopper orders and goes to checkout on 27/11/09. He pays by credit card and his order and payment is accepted. However, there is no delivery slot before 30/11/09 and consequently Tesco deem that the special offer no longer applies.
To my mind this goes against natural justice because the customer has ordered and paid during the offer period.
Can this not be challenged in the courts?

No, I use the same when taking booking at a wedding fayre, if you pay a deposit at the fayre, you get 25% off.
If you want to go away and decide, then you pay full price.0 -
I would imagine the OP would have a strong case if the payment was taken at the time of the ordering but it is my understanding that payment is only taken when the order is delivered.2014 Target;

It's that way because the price you pay is the price the items come to when they are picked and scanned shortly before delivery. Prices can change between the time you order and the time the items are scanned. Items are only sold when they are delivered and accepted by you so why should you be entitled to take advantage of special offers that have expired by the time you buy the products?
If a price changed between the time you ordered and the time you actually get the delivery of the goods (e.g. a special offer expired) then Tesco are perfectly happy for you to reject the goods that have changed in price. It seems totally fair to me, and you agreed these terms by agreeing to the terms and conditions so what makes you think you can challenge it in court? That's crazy.0 -

Afraid not, payment is not taken at time of order, card details are only verified. Payment is taken on the day of picking/packing/delivery. by which time the offer has ended.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
While a suspect there is no legal recourse i think its abit daft that don't honour it if they haven't got a delivery slot available before the offer ends.0

Shopping picked for home delivery goes through the same electronic pricing systems as ordinary customers shopping. In other words the tills that come up with how much an item is do not know that the item is for a home delivery, so they have no concept of when goods were ordered. All they know is the current price of the product at one moment in time, at the time they are scanned.
Think of ordering shopping online, as ordering someone to go shopping for you ON THAT DAY and pick the products then deliver them. So if you order on the 17th for delivery on the 21st, your ordering someone to go shopping on the 21st and then bring the goods to you, you pay whatever the goods cost on the 21st. It's not daft at all, its simple and logical.0 -
Yeh but if I order though say Amazon and the item price goes up the next day and its despatched the next day I don't pay the higher the price. So can't tesco do the same.0

Out of interest then. If I order something online during my shop, and its £1, and when the picker comes round to collect it, it is then on BOGOF, will they put two in, or just the one that has been ordered?0

Payment is taken as soon as the order is picked, otherwise how will they know how much to charge you for loose items and substitutions etc0
