    Hi Nae,
just in case I would definately not suggest any visits to the local Zoo to pick up any faecal matter that might deter minipace from defacing your festive decorative efforts.
I'm sure you wouldn't, I just wanted to make sure :D (health & safety and all that)

When kids were small, put the tree IN the play pen .

Currently having similar issues with our 2 year old lively whippet after OH put up the tree yesterday (previous 2 years we've only had little trees placed up high). His already managed to remove one glass bauble and run off with it as if it were a ball so we've been forced to reposition some baubles and other dangling decorations! I get the feeling i have my work cut out training him to stay away from the tree. Still at least he hasn't tried to pee up it! Water spray at the ready!
  • I would suggest: Heavily weighted base of tree. The immediate exclusion of all lammetta threads from the area (it apparently tastes irresistible to cats whilst looking attractive and remaining completely lethal). Ensuring all lighting electricals are well away from cat bottom height (due to compulsion to anoint said tree with personal cat perfume). Baubles made from everything except glass. With the exception of the bird shaped decorations 2/3 of the way up - they are not recommended under any circumstances.

Decorate tree. Set up video camera.

At best, you get sweet little clip of puss tapping on baubles.

At worst, you get footage of herbert launching up it as though Old Black Shuck Himself is after him, tree swaying attractively and gently cascading upon the assembled relatives, bombarding whole area with sparkly, shiny missiles.

And £250 from Harry Hill in the New Year.

    See? Moneysaving at all times!
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Cats, kittens and Christmas trees are not generally an idea combination. One year I came from work for about five days on the trot to find our active kitten had used it as an enjoyable climbing frame, and found it overturned on the floor with baubles all over the place. You could try putting in on an occasional table which is about three feet off the floor, but only if there is no furniture nearby from which your cat could launch himself onto the tree. The other option is to put a hook in the ceiling with and a strong piece of nylon cable attached to it from the trunk of the tree. Good luck. Your cat will have a great deal of fun from your tree, even if you don't. :rotfl:
Like darkstar, we also had a huge prize Swiss Cheese plant. Over a period of several days, our kitten climbed up it and gradually stripped every single leaf from it. And then, to add insult to injury, he did a great big dump on the compost in the pot instead of using his litter tray.

You could try making some clove studded orange ball decorations. Cats hate citrus (well, except one of ours that used to drink orange juice!) Our cats never go near the tree after an initial investigation & sniff on the first day it's up.

I always put my dog in the kitchen when we put up & decorate the tree. I love the double take she does when she's let back in & comes bounding in to the room where this *thing* has materialised! :rotfl:
