Yes, Tempur are more mainstream nowadays but the risk is on the supplier to check the customer is 'proper' disabled.

During a VAT inspection, the VAT officer is unlikely to ring up Mr Smith or Mr Deegan and ask them 'are you disabled?'. So the reality is that the supplier will most likely get away with it, the customer will get a VAT free matress and HMRC will not practically be able to verify every sngle sale.

In the scheme of things, it is very small fry to HMRC.
Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.

Very true, except for a seller who has a very high number of VAT exempt sales. In these cases they would investigate, and probably take action.

There are some sellers who will more or less say to people that if they have any aches or pains (which is most of us at times), then they should fill in the form and get a discount by not paying VAT. These sellers will eventually get caught.
