Can I use iTunes?

I've got an mp3 player which isn't an ipod - will it still be compatible with itunes?

No I do not think Itunes will work as ITunes is proprieatery to IPods which means ITunes only works with Ipods because ITunes converts mp3's to AAC format with only Ipods can read.

You can play MP3 files on iTunes, just not use iTunes in conjunction with your MP3 player.
    I'm better off without you.
