Cancel my credit card- how hard can it be?

Hi,
I am a victim of a well documented internet scam involving teeth whitening product:o so I want to cancel my credit card.
Capital one have said that I need to cancel the subscription with the company I registered for a 14 day free trial which I have done but looking at other threads they still keep on taking the money.
I am in the position to pay off my card in full, I asked Capital one if I could pay the card off and cancel the account with immediate effect. I have been told that it takes 5 weeks to cancel the credit card and that in that time they will continue to accept these payment and issue me with dispute forms for them all.
If my balance is nil does it really take 5 weeks to hit the button?
Any advice?
Thanks

Write to your bank advising them of the date you cancelled of attempted to cancel this subscription with this merchant.
They can then chargeback the payments that come on after this date.

Other way to do it is report your card lost. They will issue you a new card number.

The way the merchant process the payments they do not processes then as a subscription charge therfore they will not trasnfer onto the new card number

    All the best

I managed to cancel my Capital One credit cards and they issued new ones. Still in dispute about the money taken though. Seems British legistalion allows companies to do this, even after we cancel with the bank. Down to us all petitioning our MP's.

Let's all try and stop these *******!!
  • Thanks very much I'll try the letter and maybe I'll lose the card ;)

I'll also write to my MP, it was bad enough being scammed but now I feel the real baddie is my credit card company for their lack of help.

    Thank you for your help

Im all for helping people especially with these payments. However what is your MP going to do. The terms and conditions are there to see for everyone involved.

I just know from the inside having to work these day and in and day, they are not processed like for example your monthly bill to AOL is for example. They are put thru individually like its simply a card not present transaction.

Your card companies can only do what they can within Visa Mastercard regualtions.

That is either provide them with a cancellation date and they will chargeback all the further payments. OR if you havent got goods they can chargeback the payments that way. Thats basically all they got.

Anyways all the best i hope you get stuff sorted

If you have cancelled your teeth whitening subscription and the firm have no further right to any funds, then should they place any more charges on your Credit Card you simply dispute the transactions as fraudulent and request a Chargeback.

Good Luck and hope your teeth stay shiny ;)
