    Heylo,

When buying a laptop I normally tell people don't worry too much about the RAM size and Hard Drive size, mostly because these components can be upgraded.

The processor and graphics card for example cannot so they are more important considerations in my view.

The spec's you've outlined seem pretty good. Though I wouldn't buy from pc world - good to go there and look but try finding a cheaper price elsewhere - i'm sure you will!

Dell often do great deals with laptops, sometimes adding a free printer and RAM upgrade.

Since you have the intention of using it at uni and will probably use the internet, will you be living on campus? Does you uni have wireless LAN access? Things to consider could be to buy a laptop with integrated wireless adapters, which you have stated. Both laptops will be fine for uni work. But can't say much for games as i dont know what you'll play.

Might be worth doing a google search for performance reviews of the types of graphics cards in those laptops.
    I'm better off without you.

Buying laptop or a PC a year in advanced isnt a good ideanext year 1GB will be standard, cpu speeds will be faster in the lower end of the market drive capacities are getting bigger.

Its good to keep an eye on the market just incase some really good deal comes up but I would wait untill you are actually going to need it

Are you going to buy this now, or in a years time? As Little john has already mentioned, it's pointless doing research a year in advance, as the prices, bargains, and technology changes rapidly.. Vista is coming soon, and needs more horsepower than XP. Personally I'd get a cheap Dell 350 new, 200 second hand, and lag behind the latest technology a bit, it will save you loads of money in the long run.. If you spend £800 it will probably get nicked.

You can spend the 500 pounds you'll save on beer instead.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
