hotel needed in Oxford in June 2010

I am looking for a reasonably priced hotel in Oxford for 3 people in late June 2010. It needs to be close to the Universities. Every time I think I have found one Trip Adviser puts me off.
yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift thats why its called the present ;)

Why don't you look slightly further afield? The buses are reasonable enough to get you to the city centre or university
  • I dont want to be too far out as we are attending a wedding being held at St Hildas College. Buses would be out and dont want to spend too much on a taxi.

Why not stay at the university? I'm pretty sure the semester will have finished by late June. Many universities hire out their rooms during the holidays.

Have a look at this site here.

You may have to wait until closer to the date to book, though.
  • You could try:

The Youth Hostel (don't be put off, it;s actually pretty pleasant and central)

The Ethos Hotel - a short walk from the city centre

Those two are probably the cheapest options in the city.

You can also stay in the colleges if it;s out of term time

The Travelodge/Holiday Inn are further out of town, but right next to a Park and Ride

Are you driving to the hotel? If so it will be a lot cheaper for you staying at one of the ring road "budget hotels" than the centre, as taxis are very cheap in Oxford (£9ish from ring road), but parking is very expensive (£20+ for 24 hrs). Otherwise, Holiday Inn, Premier Inn, Travelodge and Express by Holiday Inn are all on frequent bus routes.

Otherwise as others have said it's mainly hostels or guest houses in the centre around the sub-£50 per night mark - a good list of this is on https://www.dailyinfo.co.uk

The Premier Inn next to the eastern ring road is very good and about 5 minutes walk away from a bus stop which will take you straight into the centre. I doubt it would be that far for a taxi either.
  • I can also recommend oxfordrooms.co.uk and I think you can book now for next June. If you don't get a confirmation email from them when you book (some sort of problem with their system) just give them a ring and they'll send it again.
  • Is it for a graduation? If so then the university should let rooms out for anyone coming who needs to stay overnight. Most big universities do it so I'd be surprised if Oxford didn't.

If it is for a graduation I'd advise you to get in there quick, rooms go super quickly at that time of year.

You need to take into account the fact that St Hilda's is on the east side of the city. The 2 closest places to stay are the Mercure Eastgate Hotel or The Old Black Horse (2 completely opposite venues, in both direction and style). Look for an hotel with a postcode of OX1 4?? or OX4 1?? If you are looking to stay at a university then you could also check Oxford Brookes University. It is a 5-minute bus/taxi ride or a 15 minute walk from there to St Hilda's.

I recommend the Youth Hostel. There are dormitories and separate rooms available to book. It is right next to the train station and very central to the City Centre.
