God this thread is confusing! :D
I have one radiator on at the moment, (combi boiler) no room thermostat and have the timer set to come on and off every hour or so in the day, then on for a few hours in the evening. I hope that as I keep only one room heated with the door closed that it'll save me money??

    It will!!

Unfortunately, with the best of intents, threads like this tend to move away from the original question and start discussing the best way to heat the whole house.

To repeat what was stated earlier, if you just want to heat the corgi's bedroom in Buckingham Palace, then heat that room and leave the other 999 rooms unheated.

Same principle if you have a two up -two down terrace house. Heating just one room and not the other three is the cheapest option!

    It ain't rocket science!!!!!
  • It started to sound like flippin' rocket science!! That's why I posted that -what with all the temperature/thermostat/boiler stuf being bandied around :D

Right....I'm, orf to do the corgis' hot water bottles......

hiya i'm looking for a little help please. I've always done as most of you have said - turn off rads that are not needed and keep doors closed etc and never had any problems..., but this year we appear to be having problems. I'll explain briefly - basically every time we need to run hot water for baths and showers we have to turn off all or as many rads as we can to get the water up to temp. Obviously during the summer and as we've had a mild autumn we've never had to do this (only just turned rads on). I've had my stepdad look at our boiler, now he's no plummer but reckons that it may be a problem with too many rads and not enough pressure to cope with it all:confused: (we normally use rad in front room but as we now have a little one we've turned more on). THB it doesnt mean a lot to me and just wondered what i need to do and is it a costly problem.
    Thanks for reading my waffle:o

Do you have a combi? or a Hot water tank?
  • I know it sounds silly, but have you checked the pressure on the boiler? Sometimes we can overlook the obvious is why I ask :)

It was the first thing i checked and my stepdad checked too. All apears to be ok with the pressure on the dial.

In a combi the Hot water usually(always?) has priority over central heating - so turning off your radiators should not have any effect.

This priority to heat hot water is achieved by a diverter valve in the boiler, so it sounds like that might be sticking/faulty.

Sorry not a plumber so cannot add more, however if you look in manual(or on line) it might give more info.
