Can I contest?

  • The actual road name on the ticket is of far lower significance than people say on here. For example, you were all there together the court could just ask everyone to clarify and move onto the facts. It would be different if the Police and defendant weren't there at the same time.
Did you jump a red light on road X
No i did not. Can the cops prove you did, no because it either doesn't exsist or is somewhere completely different from where they pulled you over.

If this happened then as everyone was at the same place at the same time we all know were the offence was alledgedly commited, i.e just before they pulled you over. It would possibly discredit the officers in question. As its a fairly silly mistake to make.

  • Unless there was a camera on the lights, I wouldn't be able to prove my innocence so there is no point in even having time off work and spending money taking it to court, like you say, their word against mine...

Do you know if the police car had a camera in it? Because, i know that alot of them do, and usually the police officer who stopped you will show you the evidence of you 'running a red light'. If this happened and you are yet to view it then this could go against you in court and there is high probability of you losing the case if you contest.

In terms of the wrong road name...

'The fact that the time and date may be wrong is not necessarily a bar to proceedings continuing and it would be for the court to decide if those matters seriously effected the alleged offenders right to a fair hearing. The choice is in the hands of the alleged offender.

It also may be worth writing to the appropriate office (details on back of ticket) setting out the reasons why you think the ticket should be made void prior to you officially challenging the ticket. If the ticket has been given out by the local authority and you are not happy with their reply then there is an ombudsman who will review such cases.'

    Hope this helps :)
