sainsburys energy - bad move?

Hi
Has anybody had an experience with EDF through Sainsburys??
I had the usual encounter yesterday in the supermarket with the hard sell etc...as I have also been hounded by telephone by Scottish power decided the figures looked good to switch.
I was offered £30 voucher along with 4700 nectar points to switch...
Feeling rather daft now as I have looked at reviews and not many praise them but state that "so called" promised reductions fail to materialise, along with voucher and points...
I have the 12 day cooling off period and am seriously in doubt now about the switch.
I am currently with Npower and really have not had any major issues with them but everybody wants to save money - right??
I am unable to understand all the jargon, and have always ran a mile form any switch as usually proves too much hassle.
Any info/advice would be most grateful as I simply cannot afford to be bitten in the proverbial !!!!!!
thanks in advance

    Which reviews have you read?
Did they compare EDF to nPower?
I suspect if you look at some more, you won't find EDF being any worse on average compared to nPower ... and if EDF are cheaper, what's the issue?

Probably best to use the comparison sites above though and check you are getting the very best deal, rather than the one a salesperson was paid to sell you.

The EDF/Sainsbury on-line account is very competitive.

However just ensure you ave not signed for their standard tariff!
  • Since looking into this I had signed for the standard tariff, the reviews I had read did not compare Npower to EDF...just simple reviews on moneysupermarket and a few other threads I had found, I do know people are quick to give negative reviews...some stated their DD were increased by 50%. I was quoted for dual DD I would be paying approx £100 but he could not guarantee this.
At the moment i pay DD for electicity £49 and gas per billed quater as I have a gas card which I am able to pay on each month, thus paying more in winter but less in summer.
I was told the rate would be capped until Sept 2010 but upon reading T&T then it seems they can at any time change the said tariff but would kindly write to me beforehand to advise of this....I could at that stage have the option to write to them to disagree but they do not state that it would be honoured!!!
I simply could not afford to be paying double what I pay now per month.
I am what i consider to be a fairly high user of gas as I have a thyroid problem and cannot bare to be cold eg last 12 months gas £756 {3 bed semi}.

Have you thought about putting an electric underblanket on your bed and a heated throw on your sofa? Much more economical way of keeping warm than hammering the central heating.

Contact Sainsbury's to make sure you are on one of Saver Version 3 or 4. They are decent tariffs. If you are on the standard tariff then there will be no complications with changing. (If you mention when calling that you are a new customer and why were you put on the standard tariff why weren't you put on OS 3 or 4 then the assistant may well be able to backdate the cheaper tariff to when you signed up. No guarantees about that. (Being polite and nonconfrontational on such calls is usually the better strategy.))

As to the thyroid problem and instalments increasing if you deign to use the power - none of yer supplier's business. If you are a high user you are a high user. Don't bother the supplier with your moans about your ESA not being high enough or your problem with your horripilations.

My understanding is you will speak to BG not Sainsburys.

  • Sainsbury's Energy is British Gas in disguise, they say they only use their billing system but the reminders say British Gas on them and you have all the associated problems that come from using British Gas.

This thread is 18 months old, why dig it up for your first post?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • It doesn't matter whether it is an old thread, it featured in search results and as such is relevant, people should know about the deception that is practiced by British Gas pretending to be Sainsbury's Energy....

It's called 'branding'. Surely you don't think the Emirates Stadium has anything other than a name they're willing to rent?
