credit card mahem

I am looking for some advice.
I am one of the old brigade of cash only dealings, as then I know it is mine when paid for.
I have recently gotten a job which will require paying for flights and hotels and car parking etc. and i was thinking about a credit card for this purpose.
I have never had a card of any description, and I am flummoxed with all the jargon that is on the site.
I will be paying off the bill monthly in full, I require a card that will be accepted everywhere ish. I will not be using the card for anything else apart from work related expenditures. Can anybody tell me what would be a suitable card and how to get one.
We have had credit before as in furniture etc, if that is what is in your credit history thingee.any help would be appreciated as i am lost.

Visa and Mastercard are the most wildly accepted card types. Most issuers have chosen to support one or the other but there are some that give you the option of the two but there is no difference between the 2 card types but there are potentially significant differences between card issuers in terms of rewards, level of limits given etc.

If flights and hotels are a regular part of your job and you have to pay up front yourself rather than using a purchase order/ account system then I would suggest asking your employers for a company card rather than having to use a personal one. Whilst cash back etc can be nice, if your finance department is anything like ours it can take a couple of months to get reimbursed and so any benefits of a personal card is probably outweighed by loss of interest whilst waiting to get reimbursement (plus if there is ever late payments fees etc your employers wouldnt be liable for these)
