Thanks Luc, finding it very hard to think of that many meals, and I am repeating most of them! So how much really do you all spend on your weekly shop against how much you budget?? Come on own up

We've been spending WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much on food but we reckon £200 is easily doable. We've got a limit of £25 a week for stuff that needs to be fresh and £100 for meat/staples/cleaning/baby/cat stuff...

  • My shopping comes in at about £40 a week . I have a big shop arrives at the end of the month which OH pays for (around £75) and I try to stretch that as much as possible. Around the middle of the month I do another delivery of around £50. I then do £10-£20 of odds and ends during the month for bread.........wine..........chocolate.....:rotfl: I could cut it by £20 easily I reckon if I cut out the odds and ends.

Im sure our biggest expense is Fruit and Veg well probably fruit tbh. Bea and I eat an enormous amount maybe 4-5 things each if not more a day so over a week thats about £20 I guess. Yesterday I bought 8 bananas, 2 big bags of satsumas, 2 bags of apples, blueberries and grapes. I know that we will probably have to top that up mid week too. Ive tried buying from the market and it just goes off or half of it is bruised so its a false economy. The other big expense is cheese for sandwiches and yogurts (another thing B and I eat by the bucket load)

I have actually considered doing an old fashioned housekeeping tin for the £25 a week. Paying on plastic kind of divorces the shopping from the loss of funds IYKWIM:o

Do you buy individual yogurts or big tubs? When I started Nathan on yogurt I used big pots with pureed tinned fruit - I had some and its lush so that's how I have it all the time now. Must cost half as much. I particularly like it with poached blueberries or plums. I make up a batch (a punnet of fruit essentially just softened with a touch of water) and freeze it in daily portions for me and nathan and take one out in the morning... Might be a way to take advantage of market fruit?

Have you considered making your own yogurt? I do and its lush. I still buy easiyo packets but someone on OS told me you can use some you've made up as a starter so there's no need to keep buying packets.

You could buy fruit tinned in juice as an alternative way of getting 5 a day...

Thats what I have decided to do..Beg of month, put money in bank for bills take out weekly amount for food, petrol and then £10 for things like swimming, and spends. I am determined to get on top of the money/debts. Am not sure entirely what happens to OH's JSA from beg of december so we could be down £65 a week...then we are in big trouble:o :(

I have but I thought it would probably work out about the same price by the time you have bought milk etc? Does it? I mean what exactly would I need. The other problem is the DD takes them in her lunchbox for school, might be tricky. But could still buy a few for that purpose
