The funny thing thats happening is that the dog is now looking all over the house for them. I dont think he would have hurt them but he is a big doberman with big paws which seem to have concrete in! He still sits outside the room that they were in incase they should appear by magic!!

well done bluezone - its not an easy thing to do.

i had to do the same thing a couple of years ago with my dog due to the end of a relationship/housing situation etc. he went off to live with my mum and her OH for 18 months until i had house sorted, job etc.

i'm glad i did it because it gave me the breathing space to know that if i had no money i could go without food - which i did quite a few times and also eating plain boiled pasta with a bit of soy sauce on - you can't feed an animal like that can you.

    Moongarden,

This is very true. Even though you can buy them the cheapest food going, they still need feeding regularly whereas i can always skip a meal or 2 if needed. And yes the breathing space will help me concentrate on other things to get myself sorted. ;)

I think you've acted completely selflessly too, it's much harder to give them up when you love them than do the right thing by them, and you have definitely done the right thing.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

  • I agree with everyone else, you have done the best thing for them and the fact that you have been able to do that says a lot about you. Dont beat yourself up over it as you have done a good thing.

You've done a good thing so dont feel bad but if they are both pedigree cats which can be expensive, why did you not try to sell them?

I know that some breeds of pedigrees can be worth £100's and can still find loving homes.

If you decide to part with them permanently, might be worth thinking about? Try breeder/lovers clubs for starters.

When my cats had a litter we sold the kittens but with these 2, i would like if poss to have them back at some point so I couldn't charge my friend for something that I would eventually take back could I.

I see what ur saying but I dont think I could ever sell my cats on for money. It was hard enough putting them in their pet carriers over the weekend and saying goodbye even though I knew I would see them again.

You're not heartless. You've made the best decision for your cats. I did the samet thing 10 years ago, I still think of them but know I made the right decision for them. Hugs to you!

Poor you -must've been so difficult, but it sounds the best and kindest thing you could've done. The cats are going to someone you know and who really wants them, your friends have got 2 lovely cats whose temperament and history they know - for free, and the situation at your parents with the dogs will be sorted out.
Whether or not you have them back will all come clear in the future, but if you decide to let the cats stay with your friends, don't forget you can get a rescue cat from the Cats Protection.
In the meantime be reassured that you've done your best, and enjoy visiting them in their safe dogless foster home.
    ((Hugs))

That was a really brave decision and you had their best interests at heart too, not just your own. I hope they will still be nice to you when you visit!
