Hi,
I'm after a Netbook thats running Windows 7.
I have a 15% off code for Comet, so that is looking the most appealing place to buy right now, but wouldn't rule other places out.
I need as long battery life as possible, as I'd be wanting to use it for at least some parts of a 7+ hour flight.
Wifi is essential, memory card reader a plus but not an essential, bluetooth not essential, 160gig HDD would suffice.
Main requirements are excellent battery life, and that it's runnig windows 7.
Budget £300 or less.
So...yeah, and suggestions welcomed!!
Thanks in advance.

samsung n140
we have a lot of netbooks and the samsungs have been brilliant
it should have W7 but shops like comets / pc world have a habbit of selling old stock in deals "as new items"
the 140 is a slightly better spec than the 110 listed here

I agree with the above. Expect around 9 to 10 hours in battery life.
Only one comment you should note! This laptop costs roughly £320 online in currys to £280 in amazon.
Just be aware that windows 7 on netbooks is 'windows 7 starter'. This is much different to windows 7 home etc...... Windows 7 starter only allows 3 applications to be loaded on the system. To me, this is really poor.
I suggest you research this on the internet and see if this is right for you.
Alternatively buy the windows xp version which is much cheaper, and try to buy the windows 7 home premium online.Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'
Remember to say thank you to people who help you out!
Also, thank you to people who help me out.0 -
Thanks for that both of you.
What are the differnces (aside from the cheaper one having Win XP) between these two??

EDIT: Cheaper one has a 160gig HDD, compared to the 240gig on the dearer one.0 -
For info, these were the two that I'd narrowed it down to (but the Samsungs are only slightly dearer)
HP: http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/587370/HP-110-115SA/tab/specification
ASUS: http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/592978/ASUS-1005HA-BLK030S/tab/specification
Any thoughts on these two?0 -
Anyone? please...!0

.
This is false. Please check your facts before posting.
Windows 7 starter allows as many applications as you like to be started. The limitations are: not able to change desktop wallpaper; no streaming multimedia over home server; no support for multiple monitors; no aero glass.
On netbooks, personally, windows 7 starter edition is fine if you use it as a netbook should be used. I would suggest you try it in the shops first.0 -
Any thoughts on these two?
Samsung has the best keyboard but looks boring. Asus has a nice design/ build, but prone to finger prints. HP has an annoying trackpad with the buttons on the side (otherwise I quite liked the keyboard). For me, I would pay the extra and go for the Samsung just for the battery life. You will find online that Asus actually does a more expensive version of the 1005HA which has a better battery life (6 cell, 10.5 hours).
At DABS I was able to see this more expensive ASUS 1005HA for £288. With quidco cash back you get an extra 4% off with free delivery. Essentially you're paying an extra £10 for 50% more battery life
If you use these machines for their intended purpose (i.e. away from plug sockets), you will appreciate this extra battery life. Bear in mind, the stated battery life is the "optimal" , ie. with wifi turned off, screen brightness turned right down, not watching videos. The "real" usage battery life is usually a few hours short of the maximum.
Edit: I see you have a 15% off coupon only with comet, in which case it's about a £40 premium for more battery so I suppose the cheaper one is worth thinking about. But personally I would still go for the longer battery life as I travel alot with my netbook

I've bought the Win XP Samy from Comet, it's just downstairs setting up, backing up, etc right now.
Thanks for the recommendations.0 -
Indeed, the Samsung (N510) has one of the best keyboards, and the screen is bloody decent also.0
