Sorry but judging by your explanation, I think they did all they could. The porter made a real effort but it was just unfortunate he had no jump leads for you.

The ad on the site may just be discretionary, I've certainly never known this to be a "Service".

I didnt ask for sarcasim. I didnt expect Asda to have a breakdown recovery service at the back of their shop but a little bit of help would of been nice.As i only bought the car on Thursday I havent sorted any sort of breakdown cover yet. Sometimes its better to keep your mouth shut as things can be offensive

Sigh. Loosen up a little. It was a tongue-in-cheek remark.

  • I agree, they did do all that they could. I was surprised that they didnt sell the leads in their motoring section. I was just a bit annoyed that they couldnt ask someone in the store for me as I couldnt stand at the doors and ask everyone that passed. I obviously was annoyed last night when i wrote my post because i was pratically frozen from being in the car park for so long.

In the Customer Services bit of their website it does list a whole range of services offered such as Bag Packing, Brolly Patrol and Jump Lead Service

I cannot believe a manager would allow a porter to drive their car, but it would be good customer service to have one of those start & chargr packs available.

Surely they sell jump leads and it is always useful to have some in the car. My jump leads come from Tesco.

I must admit i've never thought of looking for jump leads in a supermarket but I will remember that in future just in case my car decides to die on me again. Got a new battery now though so hopefully I shouldn't need it for a fair while :D
If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.0 :D
  • I used to work at ASDA as a porter (a good few years ago now) and we would always try to help customers who had flat batteries - the store had a set of jump leads but those were soon stolen by some grateful customer who had been helped. The store never replaced them so I would use my own jump leads. We never used a managers car but our own and would normally lose our parking space as a result for doing so!

The porters did suggest that the store got some sort of portable power pack to jump start cars but that idea always fell on deaf years.

So I do think you are being a little harsh, and how long were you shopping for the battery to completely die?

Lets just say, hypothetically speaking, that Asda followed up your request and announced over the tannoy to other customers for assistance and one kind hearted individual offered to help but during the attempt to jumpstart your car, it blew a fuse in his/hers and now their car is immobile, who's fault would that have been - Asda's, yours or the samaritan?

Asda are a supermarket and not a breakdown assistance service, I feel they did all in their power to help but unfortunately it was not adequate in your eyes (yet I would have been extremely appreciative!). Their other response could have been, it's your car, your problem, but at least they tried.

I feel Asda did the best they could under the circumstances. The fault lies with you for not having a breakdown cover. And the fact that the car was new is not an excuse.
  • I went into Kwik Fit recently, asked for a loaf of bread & just like the advert on telly the assistant got out their piano & played me a string of hits from years gone by - meanwhile his mate popped over the road to a good supermarket & returned with a selection of white, wholegrain & wholemeal loaves, while I finished of my second cuppa I told them about our experiences with Asda - we never use the place he said & told us a familiar story about poor service, incompetance & rude staff.
He replied - we once even offered to help any customers who had car problems & made up some signs telling them just ask next door if you need help but it seems the instructions were to complicated for them to follow, anyway I left with three loaves of fresh bread my car tyres exhaust & suspension had all been checked while someone else had touched in the scratches on the paintwork - I offered a twenty pound note tip for their help but it's all part of the service he said & they wouldn't accept a single penny from me.

    I was fuming!

The jump leads idea probably came from someone in their HO marketing dept who has not got a !!!!ing clue about the real world and didn't bother to ask.
