Refund from a secon hand item?

Options
2 Months ago i bought a part for my car off a breakers yard online. It was described as being in good working order IIRC

Today i took the part to my garage to be fitted and they rang me mid-day to inform me that the part was knackered and in worse condition than the part already on the car!!

So where do i stand? Can i ask for my money back as its been 2 months? I wouldnt have known if the part was ok even if i'd have opened it befor taking to the garage as i am not a mechanic lol

I paid on my credit card, but it was not over £100 so not sure if i could persue it through them?

any advice or me or do i cut my losses?

  • i can't offer any direct help, but your best bet is to contact consumer direct (google them) who are tradings standards etc all rolled into one - they have a telephone helpline.

as you purchased the item through the course of business you are protected by the sale of goods act, do some research on here and googling and you will have a wealth of knowledge to persue recourse, it would take an age for me to type and im going be now

Only if bought privately. If bought from a business SOGA still applies but the price has to be taken into consideration.

When my dad used to go to breakers yards they never handed a receipt over so was strictly a cash affair, How can you prove you bought the part from the breakers yard?
