Blurgghh, I'd get him off Bakers, it's like giving your kid e-numbers! Also, free feeding is likely to result in an overweight dog and cost you more money to boot.

You've had some great advice on foods, CSJ is well rated and very reasonably priced. We currently feed Skinners Field and Trial Muesli Mix which is VAT free and on ebay is about £18 per 15 kilos including delivery. The bag has feeding guidelines for your dog's weight (the weight it should be that is).

    Good luck! xx

  • My four year old Boxer has been on Tesco's Dry Dog food for over two years now without a problem. Before that he was on Bakers, but the Tesco's version is about half the price. He does get scraps added on occasion (and rice mixed in about once a week) and he seems to be very healthy on it and always has a good shine to his coat

I'd stop free feeding as you can't get a proper idea of how much your dog is eating. Work out set meal times, which you can keep constant. If you're feeding twice a day put down half of his recommended weights amount and give him 15 minutes to eat it, then take the bowl back regardsless of how much is in it. Put down a fresh bowl with the right amount in at teh next meal time and do the same. He'll soon learn that if he doesn't eat at meal times he goes hungry.

I feed my dog BARF, but I wouldn't recommend doing it purely for the money side of things, as you do need to balance it yourself. It's not difficult, but it's more effect than opening up a bag/box and pouring out the biscuits. You will also need a seperate freezer or lots of freezer space.

I'd aso get him off Bakers straight away, full of rubbish for the price you pay!

All advice is always good, but this thread has been bumped by a newbie and is 9 months old, therefore I don't think the op needs advice anymore.
    Just to save peoples time
