they take about 2 minutes to replace, tey really are not all that hard, but ford do recommend stripping the gearbox to remove all the dust ( this is the only way you would have kept your warraty on it when new apparently) but at its age i would get a reconditioned starter for about £60 and fit it myself....work permit granted!0

Do the 2.4 vans have a DMF...?
I'm thinking of the numerous Mondeo diesel starter motors that get replaced...0 -

Not too sure, i don't think they have though. i know the newer version with the 2.2 does....work permit granted!0 -
As Goldspanners says they are dead easy to swap
Depending on what engine output and what changes previous owners have made then it may have a DMF
If your starter motor has failed due to swarf breaking off the DMF then your lovely new starter will be cream crackered in next to no time unless you do the flywheel aswell0 -
Mine lasted 2 weeks on a Mondeo diesel I was running a while back. Did the DMF, clutch too as that was worn and got a new starter for 65 quid from New Rotating Electrics.0
