Hihi.
So, had the netgear DG834G for a mega 2 years now and run like a baby!
However I woke up today and my laptop running vista couldn't connect to it. I thought it was a vista prob.
So I went on my mum's computer and that couldn't connect wirelessly either :S
I checked the router, restarted it, connected through an ethernet cable, checked all the config, disabled all security for testing purposes and then tried again.
But no look. Either the pc wouldn't find the Netgear router at all (but could find my neighbours), or it would find it but there would be no signal to connect.
Since yesterday there is no possible device that is interfering with the signal. Its definitely not related to the wireless network card as we've tried 2, and both can find other networks. Its not to do with security.. so I can only pin it down to hardware related.
Just posting to see if anyone has any other ideas before I go buy another
Thanks

Have you tried a hard-reset? Somewhere there should be a little hole you can poke a paperclip through to press a button, hold for a few seconds and release. That will totally wipe the router of any firewall, dhcp etc settings you had.
Other than that and what you've already done I cant think of anything. I once had a Netgear which did what yours has, just died overnight, couldnt get it to work so bought a new one.I'm better off without you.0 -
Check the wireless LED indicator. If it is off .. then most probably.. yes, sad to say but the best way now is to buy a new router ..0

Wireless indicator is on.. did a hard reset for the 2nd thing I did.. but that never helps router problems no matter what those Indian women say from netgear support
hahaha
Ah well, ordered the dg834gT upgrade.. looks nice enough
Thanks anyway[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Too late now, but did it have the latest firmware 3.0.25?
Could you see it in netstumbler, with SSID broadcasting turned on?
Did it pick any wireless PC's up in the "wireless settings, setup access, available wireless stations" config screen.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Didn't try netsumbler actually...
The pc's would very rarely detect the netgear network but would have a cross next to it as in for no signal.. other times it would just never be detected!
This was even when the laptop was directly next to the router so couldn't be interference.
Firmware wouldn't have made a difference.. 2 years working than over one night it breaks.. not firmware related I'm sure.
It didn't pick up any pc's in the available wireless stations either
Ordered the new one anyway. Should have it by tomorrow afternoon. Girlfriends gna love it, me setting up the network then watching the Togo v South Korea match as I have a bet on it
Come on south korea![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."
